"Matthew told me that today feels a lot better inside the ballroom thanks to a pumped up air conditioning unit. At yesterday's event the air was not working well leading to a hot event under the lights. Today looks to be a little better with the air, but still will be pressure packed under the lights."

"I interviewed Tim Giese, Matthew's father about what he expects to happen in the live coverage on ESPN. Right now they have 46 kids left in the Bee, and he thinks they want to get the number down to 15 going into ABC's live coverage this evening. That means about 10 kids an hour should get eliminated, and that could determine how hard or easy the words will be that the kids are asked to spell.
Tim says that Matthew got a good nights sleep, and that he feels rested and ready to go. He also says Matthew would be happy with whatever finish he ends up with, but he knows that Matthew really wants to win the whole thing."

Here is a video clip of Matthew spelling "Quonk" on the stage. I am sorry I am so far away but the ballroom is packed and filled with hopeful parents."

"Here is Demetria at the podium for Round #2 of the Bee. She started to misspell "Mettwurst" and that may hurt her chances of moving on. The judges combine the first oral test with a written test of 25 words that was given earlier in the day. We won't know her combined score until the judges make the announcement at about 12:30 p.m."
